Back to Life Listen on: Bandcamp

[YouTube embed: Back to Life - Recording Video]

So this is a Homestuck related song I've been working on for quite some time, it's only recently that I've done the final part and edited all of the footage from the recording sessions together.

Back to Life is based around a reworking of the 'Cyan Beast' theme for Jane set during the exploration of LoCaH during myststuck. Somewhere in my tumblr archive there's a short video with an early draft of the chorus idea. I think I wrote about 4 different verses for the song before landing on one I was happy with.

This piece features two of my friends on Vocals and Trumpet. A big thanks to Clouds for their wonderful vocal performance and to Adam for not complaining about the key too much.

There are actually 2 other pieces of music that go with this to make a small suite, a short piano introduction and a more orchestral piece based once more around the Cyan Beast theme. I should be posting the full suite on soundcloud soon.

The piano solo towards the end is quite tricky (and is also another nod towards Cyan Beast). Full lyrics are included in the Youtube description. I hope you enjoy the song.

Blue Blood Group Listen on: Bandcamp, YouTube

Mark J. Hadley: (YouTube)

As evident by the title, this is intended to be a style parody of Blue Man Group, using the themes of Vriska and Equius as a base. I’ve always wanted to write a song using the PVC pipe instrument, and this seemed like a good opportunity.

Malcolm Brown:

Couldn't end my run on Homestuck without doing one last John/Showtime track! It's an orchestral smorgasbord of Ballad of Awakening, Lifdoff, Showtime and probably something else I've forgotten. Also makes use of Shepard Tones in the middle to give the impression of a constantly rising melody, (or just to sound annoying)

Didn't quite make the Volume 10 cut, but presented here for your enjoyment! :D

Alternative name: "Shave and a Heircut"

Skaianet 2.0 Listen on: Bandcamp, YouTube

Mark J. Hadley: (YouTube)

I just thought Skaianet needed an upgrade.

Heir of Grief 8-bit Listen on: Bandcamp, YouTube

Opening track on my "Songs That Probably Shouldn't Have An 8-bit Version But Now Do Anyway" EP.

Bane Listen on: Bandcamp, YouTube

Mark J. Hadley: (YouTube)

This one goes back a long ways. I wrote the first version of Bane back in 2001, originally envisioned as a final boss fight. I really liked the theme, so I made different versions of it over the years, although the last version I did was about 13 years ago in 2005. Several times I considered making a new version of it for Homestuck, but I always hesitated. I finally decided to go for it, since this was my last chance.

Bronze Brawling Listen on: Bandcamp, SoundCloud

Max Wright: (SoundCloud description)

Pow! Here's something nobody was asking for - a rootin tootin brawling theme for Skylla Koriga. The in-game music felt a little too relaxed at times given all the action, so this song here takes names, chews cud and kicks ass.

Consider this a successor to Dapper Dueling, an older track of mine that was used as the BGM for the Skylla route.

Infinity's Lament Listen on: Bandcamp

Marcy Nabors: (Tumblr)

(casual sunday question regarding P[S]) if you don't mind me (casual sunday question) okay so, in Veritas' preview video for P[S], "P[S] - Album Preview" and in the description for the video, Circlejourney has mixing credit "mixing by Circlejourney" for Veritas' track, Infinity's Lament that is nowhere to be found on the P[S] bandcamp page for the track or the included booklet; was this an error, and/or an overlooked detail? hopefully I don't sound too rude - Lilith

Hi! I ran it by Veri and he found that funny given that Circlejourney made the booklet themself. I’ve confirmed that Circlejourney did in fact help work on the song, so I’d say it’s probably either an overlooked detail, or something Cj themself decided wasn’t worth including. Unfortunately the particulars are lost to my personal memory, but thank you for reaching out!

Circlejourney: (mixing / production, HSMusic Discord)

forgive me but I am a little amused (meant in the kindest way possible) that y'all ended up going to go these lengths to find this out, because I would happily have told you that I did produce Infinity's Lament and I have the stems to prove it, hahaha

the reason I left it out is because I made the booklet and felt it might be too self indulgent to credit myself. but I should probably just have asked if they wanted to credit me

A Farewell to Arms Listen on: Bandcamp, YouTube

Catboss: (YouTube)

P[S] is an album of Homestuck music and remixes from the official music team consisting of tracks that were cut from previous albums - most officially Vol. 10, which was trimmed to 25 tracks because meme numbers. Get it here: Get P[S] here: casualsunday.bandcamp.com/album/p-s

Here's my track, A Farewell to Arms, an ode to Homestuck music, and really a thank-you letter to the entire music team itself. I tried to quote something by every member of the team. Might've missed a couple people, but I tried my best. Frankly, without Homestuck music, I wouldn't be making music today. If you liked the music at all, I highly recommend tracking down what music team folks are doing nowadays - many of them could really use the support!

(Also it's an arms joke.)

Myststuck Suite (Full Version) Listen on: Bandcamp

David Ellis: (composer, Tumblr, excerpt)

Back to Life suite: First Steps/Back to Life/A World Awake

This is the audio of the full suite of which Back to Life - the song in the video - makes up the middle section.

Thanks again to Clouds and Adam for their performances.

A little commentary:
The basic idea for the piece started after Colours and Mayhem was released (Was that really over 3 years ago!?) and it’s essentially an attempt to rework the Cyan Beast theme into a song intended for Jane Crocker (Cyan Beast was written for John originally).

There are actually some short bits of the writing lurking back further on the blog:

First sketch of the chorus idea (with horrible crackling noise now for some reason?)
Outline of the Verse/Chorus
